DO NOT TRUST any of the online free credit report locations except the one site that was set up by the three credit bureaus to comply with the law: http://www.AnnualCreditReport.com
Some of the other sites ask for your credit card number and promise 30 days free credit monitoring. However many of those sites make it impossible to cancel during the 30 day trial and then charge your credit card $29-149 for your annual membership. It is legal, but not ethical.
AnnualCreditReport.com will provide the free credit reports that the law allows you to receive. Your credit score is not provided as part of the credit reports. Credit scores can be purchased by paying a one time fee.

is the only place to get all 3 reports for free
print them out so you can review them carefully.
Fix your credit – learn how to improve it – then get your score if you want to purchase a car or a home. I like Experians the best for about 7 dollars.
1 out of 5 people have a mistake on their reports. Review them carefully. /
Call the Annual Credit Report Request Service: you can get a copy of all 3 of your credit reports for free once per year by calling the number 1-877-322-8228. The Annual Credit Report Request Service will send you the ’standardized’ credit reports by mail within two weeks.
Place a fraud alert on one of your credit files by notifying your credit bureau: your credit bureau will notify all the other credit bureaus and they will activate a fraud alert as well. After your call, write them a letter in which you explain that you have initiated a temporary fraud alert and that you’re eligible to receive a free copy of your credit report.
Place an online fraud alert (Experian only): search for ‘experian fraud alert’ and go to the experian consumer fraud center. Fill in the form.
The FTC has a link to AnnualCreditReport.com on it’s website. This is the only place where you can get free credit reports from all three credit reporting agencies without paying a fee or signing up for a free trial.
